SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 05 (STC): The purpose of education should not be just to score outstanding marks in exams or achieve success in the academic field, but through it, such responsible citizens should be prepared who have independent thinking, strong moral values, and the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and can play a positive role in the betterment of the society.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, stated this while addressing the annual event “Honor and Excellence Awards” held at the Convention Center in Jammu. He urged students to raise questions without fear, develop the ability to think independently and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly and in accordance with ethical principles.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister honored students who have shown outstanding performance in the field of education, including those who scored more than 99 percent marks. Apart from this, employees who completed 25 years of service were also awarded in recognition of their services.
Omar Abdullah said that although excellent performance and obtaining outstanding marks in the field of education are important, the broader aim of education should be to build the all-round personality of the students so that they can become responsible and useful citizens of the society in the future.
He said that through education, children should not only develop academic abilities but also be made morally strong so that they are able to make right decisions at different stages of life and understand social responsibilities.
Referring to the growing impact of social media and digital platforms, the Chief Minister said that the current generation is facing challenges that the previous generations were largely unaware of. Technology has brought convenience in many areas of life, however, with it, new problems and challenges have also emerged, which require careful and responsible use to address.
He advised the students to use modern technology as an effective means of acquiring knowledge, improving their skills and learning new things, and not to use it to copy or to get others to do their homework and academic assignments instead of doing it themselves.
Speaking on the increasing use of artificial intelligence, Omar Abdullah also shared his experience with the students. He said that he himself sometimes takes help from artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to prepare his speeches. However, he clarified that although technology has made life easier in many ways, its use has also created new challenges, so it is important that students maintain their mental abilities, creative thinking and self-reliance while taking advantage of modern facilities.
The Chief Minister, while emphasizing the importance of curiosity, study habits and independent thinking, asked the students to never be afraid to raise questions about the events and various issues happening around them. He said that no question is stupid, but sometimes the way a question is answered can be wrong.
He encouraged the students and said that the process of acquiring knowledge should not be limited to textbooks and examinations, but by adopting the habit of studying, acquiring new information and reflecting on various topics, their intellectual abilities will be further expanded.
The Chief Minister stressed that educational institutions should pay special attention to the overall personality development of students so that they emerge as conscious, moral and responsible citizens instead of just those who pass exams.
