Commercial vehicles older than 25 years will not be allowed to ply on J&K roads: Transport Commissioner

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 01 (STC): Directing the removal of 25-year-old commercial vehicles from the roads, Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner Vishesh Pal Mahajan announced that strict action will be taken against commercial vehicles that have completed their prescribed age if found plying on the roads. The Transport Commissioner in a message on the social media platform ‘X’ said that all commercial vehicle owners are requested to scrap those vehicles that have completed 25 years of age till date. He further said that the Transport Department has issued instructions to the field offices that if 25-year-old commercial vehicles are found plying on the roads, they should be seized and an FIR should be registered against the concerned owners or responsible persons. Mahajan said that the main concern of the department is the safety of passengers and common citizens, therefore commercial vehicles exceeding the prescribed age cannot be allowed to ply on the roads.
He urged vehicle owners to follow the prescribed rules and scrap over-age vehicles in time to avoid any legal action. After the instructions issued by the Transport Department for field-level monitoring and action, more stringent checks are expected on old commercial vehicles plying on the roads.
The department has made it clear that in case of violation of the rules, the vehicle will be seized as well as legal action will be taken.
