Kashmir’s world-class golf courses have the potential to boost tourism and inspire a new generation of local golfers, said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after inaugurating a golf tournament at the Royal Springs Golf Course here today.
Notably, more than 100 golfers are participating in the tournament, including players from different parts of the country and abroad.
He said Kashmir shares a long association with golf and its courses rank among the best in the country.
“If you look at the most beautiful golf courses in the country, then three courses of Kashmir can easily be counted — Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam,” he said and added that the government was focusing on promoting golf tourism while also encouraging local youth to take up the sport.
“We want to create a new generation of golfers to promote tourism,” he said.
The chief minister said the government, in collaboration with tourism authorities and event organisers, plans to host more such tournaments in Srinagar and Gulmarg.
“The idea is to attract the best golfers from across the country and promote the sport through better events, equipment and outreach,” he said.
