Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM Modi to meet on September 11: Russian spokesperson

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08 (STC): Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during an online briefing from Moscow, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit to be held in India on September 11. The meeting is expected to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and important regional and global issues.
He said that Moscow is looking forward to talks with India on the construction of new nuclear power plants. The possibilities of further expanding cooperation between the two countries in the nuclear energy sector are also expected to be discussed.
He also said Russia is aware of India’s position and both countries are keen to resolve the Ukraine conflict through peaceful means.
He said that Russia wants a solution to the conflict that can be achieved through negotiations and peaceful means.
The Russian Presidential Spokesperson also said that Peskov also strongly reacted to the proposed US proposal to impose 100 percent tariffs on countries buying Russian crude oil. He described the move as “illegal and unacceptable” and clarified Russia’s position. He said that Russia would continue to consider appropriate measures to protect its interests on various issues, including the energy sector.
Notably, the 18th BRICS summit is scheduled to be held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 11 to 13. The heads of member states and high-level delegations are expected to participate in the meeting, while many important issues including world peace, economy, trade, energy and mutual cooperation will be discussed.
