Woman accused of providing sensitive information to ISI arrested in Punjab

Police also registers case against two army personnel.

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 11 (STC): The Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police has arrested a woman on charges of providing classified information about military installations to Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), while a case has also been registered against two army personnel for their role in the alleged espionage network, reports news agency National News Bureau (NNB).
According to the police, as per the agency, the arrested woman has been identified as Gurnoor Sidhu, who is said to be a resident of Faridkot district. She was arrested on Sunday near an under-construction bridge on the Hasanwala Border Road. Police say the woman is being interrogated to get more information about the alleged espionage activities.
According to the police, information was received on Thursday that the accused were allegedly conspiring to share secret information about military areas, cantonments and other sensitive places with Pakistani agencies. The police statement said that the two military personnel, who were posted along the India-China border, allegedly collected sensitive information, while the arrested woman facilitated the transmission of this information through mobile phones, tablets and the internet.
In this regard, a case has been registered against the three accused at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Faizka under relevant provisions of the Official Secrets Act. The police and other security agencies are also investigating whether any sensitive information related to the Faridkot military cantonment was shared with Pakistani agencies.
According to the authorities, further investigation into the matter is underway and other aspects of the alleged espionage network are also being examined during the investigation.
