SRINAGAR, JULY 10 (STC): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not going to be a part of protests planned to be held at Jantar Mantar, said Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma while addressing a press confer conference here today.
In response to a question whether the BJP would participate in the National Conference-led protest in Delhi for restoration of statehood, Sunil Sharma categorically denied it, saying that the BJP cannot stand with “thieves, cheats and murderers”. He clarified that restoration of statehood is a firm commitment of the BJP, but it will be restored through Parliament, and not through protests at Jantar Mantar. The Leader of the Opposition also alleged alleged corruption in various government departments, saying that large-scale financial transactions are taking place in transfers and other government matters. He demanded that the investigating agencies conduct an impartial investigation into these allegations.
Sunil Sharma said that the National Conference’s proposed protest for restoration of statehood at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar is just an attempt to throw dust in the eyes and said that the BJP will never join this protest. Sharma said that the issue of restoration of statehood is linked to public sentiments, but the current government is using it to divert attention from its failures and public problems. He raised the question and said, “What happened to the signature campaign that the Chief Minister announced last year for restoration of statehood? Where did that campaign go?” He alleged that the government has forgotten this promise like other promises.
He severely criticized the government’s outsourcing policy and called it a big job scam. He said that through this policy, the rights of qualified and educated youth are being taken away, while behind-the-scenes recruitments are continuing. He demanded that the government immediately withdraw the order related to outsourcing, otherwise the BJP will intensify its protest movement.
Sharma told media that the party will start its movement by besieging the Civil Secretariat in Kashmir, after which the protest will be expanded to the entire Jammu and Kashmir. He also accused the government of not fulfilling its election promises. He said that promises of 200 units of free electricity, 10 kg of free ration, one lakh government jobs and free LPG cylinders were made to the people, but none of these promises could be fulfilled.
Finally, Sunil Sharma said that as the Leader of the Opposition, it is his responsibility to highlight public issues, hold the government accountable and protect the interests of the people.
