JAMMU, AUGUST 27 (STC): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a massive protest in Jammu, accusing the National Conference-led government of not fulfilling its election promises, failing to control unemployment and deteriorating conditions of basic civic amenities.
According to the reports, hundreds of BJP workers, MPs, legislators and party office bearers participated in the protest. Led by Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Sat Sharma, the workers gathered at Dogra Chowk, Maheshpura and Panj Tirthi and marched towards the Civil Secretariat in separate rallies. The protesters proceeded along Shalimar Road and raised slogans against the National Conference-Congress alliance.
BJP MP Jagat Kishore Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma and other senior leaders participated in the protest.
The protesters also burnt effigies of the NC-Congress government.
A heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces was deployed at the Civil Secretariat and the march routes in view of the protest, while BJP Mahila Morcha workers also participated in the demonstration.
BJP Jammu and Kashmir President Sat Sharma alleged that after the elections were held after a long time, the National Conference had made many promises to the people while assuming power, but now instead of fulfilling these promises, the government is trying to divert the attention of the people from the real issues by raising the issue of statehood.
He said that the government has failed to meet the expectations of the people and the issue of statehood is being used only to divert the attention of the people. Sat Sharma claimed that the National Conference has assessed its political situation with the results of the Nagrota and Budgam by-elections. He also criticised the National Conference for its alliance with the Congress, calling it a “completely failed political party”.
However, he said that the BJP wants the government to work effectively and his party is ready to play the role of a constructive opposition. Sat Sharma warned that if the government does not resolve the people’s issues, the BJP will further expand its movement and protests will be held at the district, town and local levels in the future.
